Wine Lovers Can’t Miss These Stunning Wineries in Cyprus
From the world’s oldest wine label to modern vineyards, Cyprus offers a unique wine-tasting experience across its famous villages and estates.
Cyprus’s centuries-old winemaking tradition is indisputably confirmed by the birth of the world’s oldest wine label: Commandaria. This sweet wine, still produced today, remains a symbol of the island’s rich heritage. Nowadays, Cyprus is home to numerous wine villages and wineries that invite visitors to enjoy an unforgettable tasting journey.
Vassiliades Estate – Oenou Yi, Omodos
The Vassiliades Estate in Omodos has long been a magnet for locals and visitors eager to taste and experience authentic Cypriot wines. The estate produces around 250,000 bottles annually, covering a wide spectrum: reds, whites, rosés, and of course, Commandaria, the island’s legendary sweet wine with an 800-year history. Nestled within Omodos’s unique terroir, the vineyards benefit from ideal conditions for viticulture. Visitors can also enjoy a meal overlooking the lush green landscape and the estate’s vineyards.
Dafermou Winery
Perched above the Lefkara valley, the Dafermou Winery blends seamlessly into the rolling hills and vineyards surrounding it. Much like its wines, the estate combines elements of both the Old and New Worlds. Surrounded by nature, it offers guests a serene tasting experience where every drop of wine tells the story of the land, the soil, and the people cultivating it with passion.
Vasilikon Winery
One of Cyprus’s first local wineries, Vasilikon Winery boasts 16 hectares of vineyards and an annual production of 350,000 bottles. Each bottle reflects the estate’s distinct character, attracting thousands of visitors every year eager to explore its diverse wine collections. Guests can also enjoy food and specially curated cheese platters to pair with their favorite wines.
Tsiakkas Winery
Among the island’s most historic and distinctive wineries, Tsiakkas Winery has achieved impressive growth within just a few years. Its vineyards now span over 18 hectares, both privately owned and in collaboration with partners. Annual production reaches 200,000 bottles, with wines that have already earned international recognition, prestigious awards, and praise from critics worldwide. Today, Tsiakkas stands as a pillar of quality, tradition, and innovation in Cypriot winemaking.
Vlassides Winery
Set in the enchanting wine villages of Limassol, specifically in Koilani, Vlassides Winery is a benchmark for premium Cypriot wine production. With a vision to highlight the uniqueness of local wines and establish them internationally, the winery successfully combines tradition with modern expertise. Its annual production exceeds 200,000 bottles, featuring 11 labels including whites, rosés, reds, and sparkling wines from both indigenous and international grape varieties. While most bottles are enjoyed within Cyprus, select quantities are exported abroad.
The Cyprus Wine Routes
Exploring Cyprus wine culture also means embarking on the “Wine Routes”—designed to bring you closer to the island’s flavors, traditions, and landscapes. Created with support from the European Union, the routes were developed in two phases and now feature seven distinct journeys. Each combines wineries, local taverns, cultural landmarks such as churches and museums, and gives visitors the freedom to tailor their itinerary.
The routes are organized by region and native grape varieties:
- Laona–Akamas
- Vouni Panayia–Ambelitis
- Diarizos Valley
- Limassol Wine Villages
- Commandaria
- Pitsilia
- Mountainous Larnaca–Nicosia
Together, they showcase Cyprus’s wine heritage, offering travelers the perfect blend of history, culture, and taste.
