Nicosia Joins the Intelligent Cities Challenge 2023-2025
This Collaboration Aims to Develop Local Green Deals
The Municipality of Nicosia has been chosen to join the European Commission's Intelligent Cities Challenge (ICC) for the period 2023-2025.
In a press release, the Municipality announced its selection to benefit from the expertise of Commission specialists. This collaboration aims to develop Local Green Deals, propelling Nicosia to a leading position in Europe's green and digital revolution.
The statement further explained that the Local Green Agreements would enable Nicosia, alongside other participating cities, to bolster the European Green Deal's objectives.
Local Green Agreements are designed to cover numerous essential areas, including energy, mobility and transport, the built environment and construction, as well as tourism, culture, and creative sectors.
The press release details how the European Commission's methodology will be employed. This approach, enriched by the experiences of other cities and in cooperation with expert consultants, will involve key local entities such as the Nicosia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, academic circles, research institutions, and various agencies. Through this collaborative effort, Nicosia's transition to a greener and more digitally advanced city is expected to gain significant momentum.
The release concludes by highlighting that cities engaged in the ICC will receive support in developing or updating their strategies and action plans. These efforts are aimed at addressing sustainable development goals, positioning these cities as frontrunners in the vital twin transition of becoming both greener and more digitally innovative.
