Cyprus and Qatar Strengthen Ties with Presidential Visit and Educational Cooperation
Agreements Signed to Enhance Higher Education and Research Collaboration
A delegation from various Qatari investment funds will soon visit Cyprus to explore investment opportunities in infrastructure, energy, and tourism, announced Cypriot President Nicos Christodoulides following his meeting with the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
President Christodoulides also mentioned that a Cypriot expert team will travel to Qatar to discuss Cyprus's proposal to establish a maritime corridor for humanitarian aid to Gaza. According to the Presidential announcement, Christodoulides emphasized that Qatar was the first Gulf country he visited, acknowledging its significant role in both bilateral relations and regional developments.
Highlighting the mutual desire to strengthen economic ties, Christodoulides welcomed the Emir of Qatar's decision to send a team from the country's various investment funds to Cyprus in the coming weeks to investigate investment prospects. Additionally, a significant Memorandum of Understanding in Education was signed today, paving the way for Cypriot universities to be included in Qatar's list of universities offering scholarships to its nationals for overseas studies.
The President's delegation in Doha includes Deputy Minister to the President Irene Piki, Director of his Diplomatic Office Marilena Raouna, Deputy Government Spokesperson Yiannis Antoniou, and Ambassador of the Republic to Qatar Nicolas Manolis.
Meanwhile, the two countries solidified their partnership by signing an MoU for cooperation in higher education, scientific research, and technology.
The Presidency announced that the MoU, signed during President Christodoulides' official visit, encompasses information exchange on academic curricula, mutual recognition of degrees and academic certificates, and protection of intellectual property rights.
The MoU was signed by Irene Piki, Deputy Minister to the President of Cyprus, and Buthaina Bint Ali Al-Jabr Al-Nuaimi, Qatari Minister of Education and Higher Education.
