Sanctions Enforcement Unit Nears Approval by the Council of Ministers

“We Are in the Final Stage,” President Christodoulides Said

President Nicos Christodoulides announced that the National Sanctions Enforcement Unit is nearing approval by the Council of Ministers, emphatically stating that "there is nothing negotiable" regarding sanctions and the country's reputation.

This statement from President Christodoulides follows the emergence of new legal and physical entities associated with Cyprus in the latest sanctions announced by the USA, the UK, and Canada.

Responding to a question about the current stage of the National Unit for monitoring sanctions, in light of new sanctions imposed on legal entities registered in Cyprus, President Christodoulides said, "we are in the final stage," and that there would soon be an update to the Council of Ministers.

"In the next few days, the Unified Supervisory Mechanism will be promoted for approval by the Council of Ministers. What I publicly announced has been processed; we have reviewed it with the Minister of Finance, undergone legal-technical control, and are in the final stage. It will pass through the Council of Ministers," stated President Christodoulides at the sidelines of an event celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Hellenism Reading Society of Akaki.

Referring to the issue of sanctions, their violation, and the country's reputation and credibility, the President reiterated that "there is nothing under negotiation. I have said it many times, I mean it, no one is above our country's reputation."

Finally, when asked if Nicosia is facing pressure regarding the liquefied natural gas terminal involving the Chinese side, the President declined to comment. "There is a reason why I do not wish and cannot comment on this specific issue; we expect some developments," he concluded.
