The European Union has announced its plan to support a series of transformative projects in Cyprus. This initiative includes the establishment of an Asset Management Office in Cyprus, a structural review of the Cypriot Presidency, enhancements to the Cypriot Deposit Guarantee Scheme, and the creation of a Deputy Ministry for Migration and Asylum. These projects are among those selected by the Commission for implementation under the Technical Support Instrument.

In total, the Commission has approved twelve projects specifically for Cyprus. These projects not only address the country's unique needs but also involve Cyprus in six additional multi-country initiatives. This forms part of a broader strategy involving 170 projects aimed at supporting reforms across the EU.

The overarching goal of these EU-supported reforms is to boost the competitiveness, resilience, and modernization of member states. Areas of focus span from the integration of Artificial Intelligence in business and public administration to the execution of the Green Deal Industrial Plan. Other significant areas include promoting gender equality, addressing the issue of brain drain, and providing mental health care services to young people and children.

Focusing on Cyprus, the following six projects are tailored to its specific requirements:

1. The establishment of an Asset Management Office.

2. The formal establishment of the Secretariat for the Coordination and Support of the Government Programme (SCSGP) and a structural review of the Cypriot Presidency.

3. Improvements to the operational functions of the Cypriot Deposit Guarantee Scheme.

4. Reforms aimed at developing and enhancing the civil protection system.

5. Support for the newly established Deputy Ministry of Migration and Asylum.

6. Technical support for the digitalization of the law-making process, including the development and support of an e-legislation platform.

Additionally, Cyprus will benefit from participation in six EU-wide projects, further enhancing reform efforts:

1. Implementing gender mainstreaming in public policy and budget processes.

2. Building capacity to combat aggressive tax planning.

3. Enhancing the National Strategy for preventing and combating irregularities and fraud against the EU's financial interests (2021-2027).

4. Tackling bid rigging in public procurement to improve compliance and competition.

5. Promoting youth mental health by addressing the risks associated with online gambling and gaming.

6. Offering technical support for a more effective and resilient National Preventive Mechanism against torture (NPM), in collaboration with the Council of Europe.
