Empowering Communities and Enriching Lives: The Role of Cyprus-Based Corporations in Local Development

Making a Significant Difference on the Island of Cyprus

Cyprus has become a haven for aspiring businesses to set up their operations due to several factors that accommodate their corporate needs. This influx of businesses establishing their headquarters on the island has significantly contributed to the diversification and growth of various sectors within the local economy.

Amidst this corporate expansion, the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has transcended its status as a mere industry buzzword to become a cornerstone of modern business ethos. CSR embodies a company's commitment to contribute positively to society, extending beyond profit generation to address social, environmental, and economic challenges within local communities. This commitment is manifested through strategic initiatives that not only underscore a company's global awareness but also directly benefit those in need.
Our examination of the CSR efforts undertaken by companies based in Cyprus reveals a commendable dedication to making meaningful impacts within the community. Here, we spotlight a few organizations that exemplify exceptional commitment to CSR practices.

Quadcode: A Fintech Conglomerate Leading by Example

The Quadcode group is home to five fintech brands that are operating in more than 150 countries, and CSR has always been one of their top priorities. Quadcode makes sure to keep its employees informed on important environmental issues, as well as motivate them to take part in charity and environmental initiatives. They often hold lectures on recycling, food sharing, and blood donations, among other subjects. Furthermore, Quadcode has cultivated a recycling culture among its employees as they always recycle plastic bottles, cans, old bulbs, batteries and other waste, while at the same time, the company is transitioning to a low-carbon economy with the use of data servers that are solely powered by renewable energy. Finally, Quadcode has often teamed up with the Together Cyprus Foundation, a successful network of volunteers in Cyprus, to participate in green initiatives, such as picking up litter and maintaining public hygiene.

Freedom Finance Europe: Championing Cultural and Intellectual Enrichment

Freedom Finance Europe is an international online broker that provides clients from the European Union with the tools and resources they need for successful investments. They’re not only successful in their brand operations, but their social contributions as well.
One of their most significant contributions is to the sport of chess in Cyprus. Freedom Finance Europe has worked tirelessly to help popularise and lay the foundations for the advancement of chess in Cyprus. In May 2023, the brand organised the fourth round of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) Women’s Grand Prix in Nicosia, in direct collaboration with the FIDE International Chess Federation.
Another initiative by Freedom Finance Europe is the Freedom Finance Ballet Gala. In February of 2023, Freedom Finance Europe brought the elegant art of ballet to Cyprus, through an exciting event that surpassed expectations and inspired multiple young people to take up ballet.

Exness: Investing in Environmental Sustainability and Community Resilience

The Exness Group was founded in 2008 and has since grown into a multi-asset broker of international renown. Exness has always placed Corporate Social Responsibility at the top of its priorities, a fact which is quite evident based on its history of important initiatives and activities. Arguably the brand’s most significant and impactful contribution has been the donation of €600.000 to help strengthen the Cypriot Department of Forests. Wildfires have become a very pressing issue for the island of Cyprus and Exness made certain to help the Department of Forests in their uphill battle. This donation has allowed the Department of Forests to acquire, among others, fire trucks, a pick-up truck, and fire-detecting drones. Moreover, Exness has helped organise tree-planting events, literally “planting the seeds” for a greener future for Cyprus.

A Collective Vision for a Sustainable Future

The economic benefits brought about by foreign investment and the establishment of businesses in Cyprus are undeniable. However, the integration of CSR practices by these entities plays an equally vital role in shaping a sustainable and inclusive future for the island. The examples set by companies such as Quadcode, Freedom Finance Europe, and Exness highlight the transformative potential of corporate contributions to societal well-being and environmental conservation. It is imperative for all businesses operating within Cyprus to embrace this ethos of giving back, ensuring a prosperous and resilient future for the community and the environment alike.
