OEB Report Reveals Gaps in Employee Digital Skill Training

Study Highlights the Importance of Digital Transformation for Business Competitiveness

A study conducted by the Federation of Employers and Industrialists (OEB) underscores the importance of digital transformation as a crucial factor for business success and sustained competitiveness.

However, the research also reveals that while there is a recognized need to improve employees' digital skills, businesses are not fully utilizing opportunities for staff training.

Specifically, 37% of businesses plan to offer digital skills training to their staff only when necessary. Additionally, 25% provide training every six months, and 14% do so once a year.

The study's results highlight that Cypriot businesses acknowledge the benefits of digital transformation. However, the costs of such a transition, the time required for implementation, and rapidly evolving technological advancements pose significant challenges.

Conducted as part of the "Pillars of Development" project within the framework of the Cohesion Policy Program "THALIA 2021-2027" and co-financed by the EU, the study was presented yesterday at an OEB press conference.

Furthermore, 55.2% of respondents consider their staff's digital skills level to be good, while 24.8% rate it as moderate, and 11% deem it excellent.

Regarding the primary reasons for needing digital skills, 58.1% cited increased productivity, followed by 55.7% mentioning adaptation to digital transition, and 54.3% highlighting improved customer service.

When asked about the key skills and tools or software where gaps are observed, 32.4% pointed to internet security and data protection, 26.2% identified note-taking and usage applications, and 25.7% noted file storage and management in an electronic environment.
