Cyprus Pride 2025 to Be Held on May 31 as a Protest March for Human Rights
Accept Cyprus Announces Pride as a Response to Rising Hate, Misinformation, and Threats Against the LGBTQ+ Community
Accept Cyprus announced via its social media channels that this year’s Cyprus Pride will take place on May 31, 2025. However, this year's event is described not only as a celebration but also as a protest march.
The organization stated: “This year, Pride is a march of protest and celebration. Cyprus Pride 2025 is a direct response to the rise of extreme politics and neo-Nazi practices, marginalization, propaganda, involuntary and deliberate misinformation, and the increasing risks and violence facing fundamental human rights in today’s society. Fundamental human rights apply to all people, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, or gender identity. As hate speech continues to escalate, so do violent crimes against our marginalized community, deepening the oppression we face. Recognizing these urgent threats, this year’s Cyprus Pride returns to its roots — as an act of protest, not solely a celebration. It is a collective effort to defend human rights and a community facing grave risks.”
By framing the event as both a celebration and a protest, Accept Cyprus underscores the serious challenges still faced by the LGBTQ+ community in Cyprus and beyond. The event will serve as a platform to raise awareness of systemic issues such as hate speech, misinformation, and violence, and to call for the protection of basic rights for all individuals.
