PASYDY: Rectifying the Injustice on Annual Leave Entitlements Is the Right Move

The New Regulations Cover Indefinite-Duration (Indetermined-Term) Contract Employees.

PASYDY welcomes the unanimous passing of the amending regulations regarding leaves of absence in the public service. These regulations recognize the prior service of employees moving internally for the purpose of granting annual leave, satisfying a long-standing demand of the Organization for equal treatment.

According to an announcement by the union, the new regulations cover indefinite-duration contract employees, as well as officers appointed to the public service following service in the security forces, the armed forces, the public educational service, or public legal entities (semi-governmental organizations).

The objective, according to PASYDY, is for these employees to retain the number of annual leave days they were entitled to under their previous employment status, and for their years of service to count toward the future scale escalation of their leave.

"With these new provisions, a long-standing injustice is rectified, equal treatment of employees is ensured, and their contribution and career path are recognized. Furthermore, a retroactive application of the Regulations as of January 1, 2018, is provided, which restores a significant distortion of the previous regime," the statement adds.

"PASYDY, which has historically supported the need to resolve this issue and actively participated in the relevant consultations, expresses its satisfaction with this positive development and thanks everyone who contributed to the promotion and passing of the relevant regulation," the civil servants' union notes in conclusion.

The Union will continue to monitor the correct implementation of the new Regulations and work consistently to defend the rights of all employees in the Public Service.
