Airlines: This Is Their Market Share in Cyprus
Cyprus Airports Record 5.3% Increase in Passenger Traffic in First Half of 2024
2024 is shaping up to be a strong year for Cyprus airports, with a notable increase in passenger traffic observed through June. According to data collected by Hermes, from January to June 2024, a total of 5.1 million passengers traveled through Larnaca and Paphos airports, marking a 5.3% rise compared to the same period last year.
Specifically, Larnaca Airport handled 3.5 million passengers, while Paphos Airport saw 1.6 million.
This increase in passenger traffic is largely attributed to enhanced connectivity, as several airlines have expanded their flights to and from Cyprus airports.
The data from Hermes also reveals the market share held by each airline operating in Cyprus.
Wizz Air leads the market with over 2 million passengers, followed closely by Ryanair with just under 2 million passengers. Aegean Airlines holds the third position, with a small margin ahead of easyJet in fourth. The fifth spot is occupied by TUI Group, followed by Jet2.com in sixth, British Airways in seventh, Cyprus Airways in eighth, Sky Express in ninth, and Lufthansa in tenth.
Hermes forecasts indicate that more than 11.8 million passengers will travel through Cyprus airports in 2024, surpassing last year’s traffic.
Specifically, 153 routes to 38 markets are being operated by 56 airlines this year. Larnaca Airport is expected to see 8.2 million passengers across 95 routes, while Paphos Airport is projected to handle 3.6 million passengers on 58 routes.
