Cyprus Approves State Land For University Development
New Regulations To Boost Educational Infrastructure
In its session on Monday, the Council of Ministers made a decision allowing state land to be allocated for the purposes of establishing and operating academic institutions.
An announcement from the Ministry of the Interior stated that, considering the potential the education sector has gained in recent years, the Government has decided to proceed with measures to support the tertiary education sector.
In this context, it is added, recognizing that education constitutes a growing pillar for attracting business activity and investments, and consequently contributes to the country's economy, in consultation with the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, the Ministry of the Interior has proceeded with the amendment of the relevant Regulations, aiming to utilize state land for educational purposes.
"The amendment of the Regulations was deemed necessary, given the increased interest from local and foreign academic institutions to develop new and expand existing university infrastructures in Cyprus. The allocation of state land for the establishment, expansion, and operation of universities multiplies options and creates more opportunities for Cypriot and foreign students, upgrading Cyprus's position on the education map," the Ministry stated.
The amending Regulations will be submitted to the House of Representatives for discussion and approval.
