CrowdStrike: The Company Behind the Global IT Outage
Global IT Outage Affects Businesses, Airports, and Stock Exchanges
On Friday morning, Microsoft, dozens of airlines, and airports worldwide issued warnings about problems with their systems. Media outlets, businesses, public services, and even police departments in various countries from Australia to Europe and the United States have been affected.
CrowdStrike, one of the world's leading cybersecurity firms, has been identified as the source of this global information systems blackout. From the outset, suspicions fell on CrowdStrike due to the extensive impact of the disruption.
CrowdStrike confirmed to NBC that it suffered a significant outage on Friday, which has affected its business clients (and indirectly third parties through those clients) globally. The company clarified that the disruption stemmed from an issue with its latest update.
CrowdStrike is currently in the process of restoring its systems worldwide. This confirmation followed widespread reports of technical issues across the globe. One of the most immediate effects was on Windows systems worldwide, with laptops displaying the infamous "blue screen of death."
"CrowdStrike is aware of reports of errors on Windows servers related to the Falcon sensor," the company acknowledged.
CrowdStrike boasts on its website that it "has redefined security with the world’s most advanced cloud-native platform that protects and empowers the people, processes, and technologies that drive modern enterprises."
The company offers services to secure the most critical areas of risk in the cloud, blocking breaches.
Powered by the CrowdStrike Security Cloud, the CrowdStrike Falcon® platform leverages real-time attack indicators, threat intelligence, and provides highly accurate detections, automated vulnerability protection, and remediation.
CrowdStrike serves various sectors, including finance, manufacturing, educational organizations, energy companies, insurance firms, retail, and airline services.
