Total Registrations of Motor Vehicles Records Annual Increase of 16.6%
The total registrations of motor vehicles recorded an annual increase of 16.6% in January-July 2024, according to the Statistical Service of Cyprus, which announced on Thursday the publication of the report entitled "Registration of Motor Vehicles" for the period January-July 2024.
It says that in July 2024, the total registrations of motor vehicles numbered 4.614, recording an increase of 3.9% compared to 4.441 in July 2023. Passenger saloon cars registered a fall of 2.1% to 3.503, from 3.578 in July 2023.
The total registrations of motor vehicles increased by 16.6% to 30.864 in January-July 2024, from 26.462 in January-July 2023.
Passenger saloon cars increased to 24.126 from 21.178 in January-July 2023, recording a rise of 13.9%. Of the total passenger saloon cars, 10.151 or 42.1% were new and 13.975 or 57.9% were used cars. Rental cars in particular recorded a fall of 32.0% to 2.694.
The share of petrol-powered passengers’ cars to the total of this category of vehicles decreased in January-July 2024 to 50% (from 59.5% in the corresponding period of the preceding year) and that of diesel-powered cars to 10% in 2024 from 10.2% in 2023. On the other hand, the share of electric cars rose from 2.5% in 2023 to 3.2% in 2024 and of hybrid cars from 27.8% to 36.8%.
Motor coaches and buses registered in January-July 2024 decreased to 99, from 211 in the same period of 2023.
Goods conveyance vehicles increased by 40.2% to 3.523 in January-July 2024, compared to 2.512 in January-July 2023. In particular, light goods vehicles increased by 43.5% to 2.805, heavy goods vehicles by 34.2% to 412, road tractors (units of trailers) by 89.2% to 140, while rental vehicles decreased by 5.7% to 166.
Mopeds < 50cc registered in January-July 2024 increased to 480 compared to 162 in the corresponding period of the previous year.
Mechanised cycles > 50cc increased by 6.1% to 2.218 in January-July 2024, compared to 2.090 in the same period of 2023.
