Cyprus President Visits Dubai to Strengthen Bilateral Ties with UAE
Energy, Infrastructure, and Investment Cooperation Dominate Discussions During Christodoulides’ One-Day Visit to Dubai
Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides made a one-day trip to Dubai on September 11, following an official invitation from the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
According to a written statement by the Cypriot Government Spokesperson, discussions during the meeting focused on enhancing cooperation in the fields of energy and infrastructure, regional developments, strengthening bilateral relations, and accelerating the strategic partnership to achieve tangible results.
It is noteworthy, as reported by Brief, that investment opportunities and economic cooperation between the two countries were also among the key topics discussed. The UAE has shown interest in investing in Cyprus, particularly in the energy sector. In recent years, talks on investment cooperation between the two nations have been ongoing.
Approximately a year ago, the UAE’s Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, responsible for Economic and Commercial Affairs, visited Cyprus as a special envoy to engage with government officials and technocrats to promote UAE investments in the country. These investments primarily focus on large-scale infrastructure projects.
Earlier, on February 14, 2023, Cyprus and the UAE signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Exchange of Expertise in Government Services and Capacity Building.
Additionally, on April 27 of the same year, the UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, was received by President Christodoulides during a working visit to Nicosia. The meeting, which also included the Cypriot Foreign Minister, explored the strong strategic ties between the two nations, particularly in the areas of economy, trade, and investment.
