Limassol Municipality Joins European Mobility Week 2024 for the 16th Year
Promoting Sustainable Urban Mobility with a Focus on Pedestrian and Cyclist-Friendly Spaces
The Municipality of Limassol is participating for the 16th consecutive year in the European Mobility Week, which will take place from September 16 to 22, 2024. The municipality invites its citizens to embrace the experience and use bicycles or walking as alternative modes of transportation in public spaces.
A municipal announcement highlights that this week represents the EU’s leading campaign to promote sustainable mobility in cities. This year’s theme, titled "Sharing Public Space," focuses on improving infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists, enhancing both accessibility and quality of life in urban areas.
Limassol Municipality has scheduled a series of activities to promote sustainable mobility, including bike routes, road safety workshops, micromobility initiatives, and much more. A key event during the week will be the partial closure of Anexartisias Street on Saturday, September 21, where citizens will have the opportunity to move safely on foot or by bicycle.
In addition to the planned activities, throughout the European Mobility Week, the public will have the chance to use bicycles for free for one hour each day by entering the code mobweek24L via the NextBike app. Furthermore, people will be able to use the electric buses for free, specifically Line 32, which serves the city center.
All events during the week are held under the auspices of the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Works and co-organized with the Cyprus Energy Office and the European Climate Pact.
