KidIT Cyprus: A New Wave of Tech Education for Families
Empowering Young Innovators From Tech Consumers to Creators
In today’s fast-paced digital world, children are often passive consumers of technology—playing games, watching videos, and scrolling through social media. But what if we could change that? KidIT, a groundbreaking tech education program designed for children aged 5-13, is shifting the paradigm by turning young technology users into creators, innovators, and problem solvers.
Founded in 2015, KidIT has already made waves in three countries: Cyprus, Ukraine, and Spain. Now, with the start of a new wave of its program in Cyprus, families in Limassol, Larnaka, and Nicosia have the perfect opportunity to join a dynamic, year-long educational initiative that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.
KidIT’s mission is clear: to empower children to move beyond passive consumption and become active creators of their own stories, games, and animations. The program offers 15 unique, age-appropriate curricula where kids work with tools such as Scratch, Tynker, Blender, and Unity. Through this hands-on approach, participants develop not only coding skills but also key “4C” soft skills: creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking.
A Whole-Year Journey of Tech Learning
The program runs from September to July, featuring weekly one-hour sessions held at local IT company offices. This immersive setting gives children a first-hand experience of the professional world, inspiring them to explore future career possibilities. Small groups of 6-10 children are led by “Ninja-teachers,” a multicultural team that’s been specially trained to guide kids through these enriching experiences.
Alongside regular classes, KidIT offers a wealth of additional activities, including parent-child workshops, excursions to IT offices, and Kids Games Hackathons on socially important themes like “Make Cyprus Clean” and “I’m Changing the World for the Better.” Children will even have the chance to showcase their work at international IT and gaming conferences such as GDCy Fest and the Reflect Festival.
A Free Program Powered by the Community
One of the most remarkable aspects of KidIT Cyprus is that the classes are free for families, thanks to the generous support of partnering IT companies. This community-driven initiative allows children from diverse backgrounds to access high-quality education without financial barriers. As KidIT expands its impact, it plans to grow even further, with new workshops, an emphasis on neurodiversity, and the opening of its program in Paphos in 2024.
For families seeking to give their children a head start in tech education, this new wave of KidIT represents an unmissable opportunity. It’s more than just coding—it’s about laying the foundation for a future where kids become innovators, using technology to shape a better world.
