The Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation, and Digital Policy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Khazna, a member of the G42 Group (UAE), to support the upgrade of the island’s digital infrastructure, with a focus on data centers.

The MoU was signed during an official visit to Dubai by Deputy Minister Nikodimos Damianou, accompanied by the Chief Scientist for Research, Innovation, and Technology, Demetris Skourides.

“We are particularly pleased to establish this promising collaboration with Khazna, the largest data center operator in the UAE and a member of the renowned G42 group,” said the Deputy Minister.

He added that the MoU reflects Cyprus’ strong commitment to becoming a significant player in the global digital landscape and marks the beginning of a broader partnership with G42 across various sectors.

“Cyprus, connecting Europe, Asia, and Africa through the Mediterranean region, is a natural choice for businesses seeking a reliable and secure gateway for data transmission and access to the European market,” the Deputy Minister stated.

He also noted that Cyprus is already well-connected in terms of submarine fiber optic cabling, with 12 undersea cables linking the island to global markets, and satellite ground stations. The country aims to further invest in these areas.

“This collaboration lays the foundation for synergies in other fields beyond infrastructure, such as artificial intelligence, smart mobility, and space technologies—areas critical to realizing our vision for a digitally advanced Cyprus,” he continued.

Through the partnership with G42, the integration of advanced technologies is expected to significantly strengthen Cyprus’ digital capabilities and position it at the forefront of technological innovation.

The Deputy Minister also emphasized that Cyprus, listed among Europe’s “Strong Innovators,” is accelerating the adoption of high-tech solutions for citizens and businesses through a digital, customer-centric model.

Hassan Alnaqbi, CEO of Khazna, expressed excitement about initiating dialogue with the Cypriot government to explore opportunities for Khazna to contribute to Cyprus’ digital transformation efforts. As a leader in providing large-scale digital infrastructure, Khazna aims to introduce innovative solutions to enhance the country’s digital capabilities and strengthen its role as an emerging technology hub in the region.
