Cypriots Don’t Trust Each Other—Eurostat’s Findings Prove It

Cyprus Ranks Lowest in the EU

Trust in others, a concept that reflects a person’s opinion or feeling about a core value or belief, is often an abstract evaluation. It refers specifically to trust in people with whom the respondent is not personally acquainted—excluding family, friends, neighbors, and so on.

According to Eurostat's Key Figures on Living Conditions in Europe – 2024 Edition survey, the average trust rating across the EU in 2023 stood at 5.8.

Trust levels varied significantly across member states, ranging from less than 5.0 in Cyprus, Lithuania, France, Slovenia, and Greece, to more than 7.0 in Romania and Finland, with Cyprus ranking lowest in the EU.
