European Investment Bank President Inaugurates New Cyprus Office

Strengthening Economic Resilience And Sustainable Growth In Cyprus

The President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), Nadia Calviño, will carry out her first official visit to Cyprus on Friday, November 22, for the inauguration of the Bank Group’s office and discussions with the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, and the Minister of Finance, Makis Keravnos.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Finance, Ms. Calviño’s first official visit to Cyprus in her capacity as President of the EIB Group will also include meetings with President Christodoulides and the Finance Minister to discuss shared priorities aimed at strengthening economic resilience and sustainable development.

The inauguration ceremony for the EIB Group office will take place at the Ministry of Finance in Nicosia on November 22, from 1:30 PM to 2:45 PM, where the President of the Republic will deliver the keynote address, and the Finance Minister will give a welcome speech.

The Ministry's announcement states that the new office, located in the Cypriot capital, will strengthen the EIB Group's local presence and facilitate cooperation with partners and businesses on issues of strategic priorities and funding opportunities.

Additionally, the EIB President will visit the University of Cyprus (UCY) with the Rector of UCY, Tasos Christofides, and will tour its library and engineering faculty, both of which were funded by the EIB.

According to the Ministry’s announcement, "The EIB Group’s most recent agreements in Cyprus include support for modernizing water management and transportation and energy infrastructure, while future key priorities include affordable housing and improving access to financing for small businesses.”

It is also noted that the EIB has invested €5.6 billion in the country since 1981, promoting economic growth, social cohesion, and improving people’s lives.

It is further stated that the EIB Group invested €257 million in Cyprus in 2023, supporting water management infrastructure, regional development, and strengthening economic resilience, while also enhancing environmental sustainability and improving quality of life.
