Personne: A Performance in Cyprus Exploring Sexuality with English Subtitles

A Theatrical Journey Inspired by Mishima’s "Confessions of a Mask"

"Personne," presented by the Liminal Theatre Company, takes audiences on a profound exploration of identity, authenticity, and self-discovery. Drawing inspiration from Yukio Mishima’s early novel, Confessions of a Mask, the performance delves into themes of sexual awakening, forbidden desires, and the construction of a public facade against the backdrop of the waning days of a lost war.

The title "Personne" carries a dual meaning, rooted in its etymology. It refers both to the mask worn by an actor and to a human being defined by consciousness, morality, and societal existence. Intriguingly, in French, "personne" also translates to "nobody," reflecting the tension between presence and absence, identity and anonymity.

The performance serves as a quest for authenticity, weaving narrative and theatrical play to uncover the layers of self hidden beneath societal masks.
