Cyprus’ Kostas Kadis Appointed EU Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans

She Also Announced the Names and Portfolios of the Six Executive Vice Presidents and the Remaining 20 Commissioners

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has appointed Cyprus’ nominee, Kostas Kadis, as Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans in the new College of Commissioners, as announced today from Strasbourg.

"I rely on his experience to help build a resilient, competitive, and sustainable sector and to present the first European Oceans Agreement," said von der Leyen.

She also announced the names and portfolios of the six Executive Vice Presidents and the remaining 20 Commissioners, focusing on the main political priorities of her second term, which she stated would be prosperity, security, and democracy, along with ensuring competitiveness and the green and digital transition of EU economies.

Von der Leyen emphasized that all issues are interconnected, based on the recommendations of the Draghi report, which reduces the separation between portfolios.
