Dr. Athos Agapiou, Assistant Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering and Geoinformatics at the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), has been unanimously elected as a member of the Young Academy of Europe (YAE).

The Young Academy of Europe is an independent, interdisciplinary organization that unites young scientists across Europe, focusing on advancing scientific excellence, promoting collaborative research, and shaping science policy. Dr. Agapiou’s election, unanimously approved by the YAE Selection Committee, highlights his significant contributions to science and his active involvement in research initiatives.

Dr. Agapiou is recognized for his expertise in developing and applying innovative remote sensing and geoinformatics technologies for the preservation and management of cultural heritage. He has led and participated in numerous research projects funded by EU programs such as Horizon Europe and Horizon 2020, while collaborating with top research institutions across Europe. His interdisciplinary research has advanced the study and monitoring of archaeological sites using satellite remote sensing and geospatial technologies.
