DISY MP Nikos Sykas Before Supreme Court Over Immunity Request
Court to review Attorney General’s application following withdrawn assault complaint.
The case of DISY MP Nikos Sykas will come before the Supreme Court today at 11:00, where the Legal Service’s request to lift his parliamentary immunity will be examined.
The Legal Service submitted the request after completing its review of the case file.
It is noted that, under current legislation, the lifting of a Member of Parliament’s immunity requires a formal request by the Attorney General to the Supreme Court. Without the approval of the Supreme Court, an MP cannot be prosecuted, arrested, or imprisoned for the duration of their term in office.
It is recalled that the DISY MP had been accused by his partner of physical assault during the recent holiday period in Greece. However, several days later, she withdrew the complaint filed against him.
