First Strategic Dialogue Between Cyprus and the United States Begins Today

Focus on Regional Cooperation, Crisis Management, and Signing of Artemis Accords

The first Strategic Dialogue between the Republic of Cyprus and the United States of America will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, in Nicosia, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the event, the Artemis Accords, which pertain to the peaceful exploration and exploitation of space, will be signed.

The opening remarks for the Strategic Dialogue will be delivered by the Cypriot Foreign Minister, Constantinos Kombos, representing the Republic of Cyprus. The United States government will be represented by Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, James O'Brien, who will lead a broad delegation. A joint communiqué will be issued following the conclusion of the dialogue.

It is noted that the Cypriot delegation during the day-long discussions will be headed by the Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Andreas S. Kakouris.

The discussions will focus on four key areas: "International and Regional Cooperation," "Security, Crisis Management, and Law Enforcement," "Education/People-to-People Ties," and "Energy, Trade, Research, and Technology."

On the sidelines of the Strategic Dialogue, the Artemis Accords will be signed on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus by the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation, and Digital Policy, Mr. Nicodemos Damianos. The signing ceremony will take place in a live connection with NASA in the United States.

It is noted that the initiation of the Cyprus-U.S. Strategic Dialogue, which was agreed upon during the meeting between Foreign Minister Kombos and U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken last June in Washington, formalizes the conduct of annual high-level meetings based on shared themes and priorities. This marks the deepening of cooperation between Cyprus and the United States, grounded in shared democratic values and interests, aiming to broaden their multi-faceted partnership, the announcement concludes.
