Iran Reviews New US Proposal Amid Fresh Trump Threats
Arab Media Reports Suggest A Final Agreement Text Could Be Announced Within Hours.
Iran said on Wednesday night that it is “reviewing” a new US proposal following the visit of Pakistan’s Interior Minister to Tehran, who is reportedly mediating talks between the two sides, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
“We have received the views of the American side and are currently reviewing them,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei told state television, while also expressing Tehran’s “deep distrust” toward the United States.
According to Baghaei, message exchanges between Iran and the US continued based on Tehran’s 14-point proposal, with Pakistan’s Interior Minister in Iran to help facilitate the discussions.
Earlier in the day, Donald Trump issued a new warning toward Iran as reports circulated about a possible final draft agreement being prepared within hours.
During a graduation speech at the US Coast Guard Academy, the American president stated:
“Everything is gone. Their navy is gone. Their air force is gone. Almost everything.”
“The only question is: do we go finish it? Or will they sign a document? Let’s see what happens,” he added.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said earlier that his country has consistently honored its commitments and explored every possible avenue to avoid war.
He also criticized US threats of further strikes if no agreement acceptable to Washington is reached. In a post on X, he described efforts to force Iran into surrender as “nothing more than an illusion.”
At the same time, negotiations between Washington and Tehran appear to be entering an advanced stage, with international media reporting that official announcements could come within the next few hours.
According to Arab networks Al Arabiya and Al Hadath, “work is underway to finalize the text of an agreement between Washington and Tehran,” while reports also claim that “the head of the Pakistani army may visit Iran tomorrow to announce the final version of the agreement.”
The reports further suggest that “the final version of the agreement between America and Iran could be announced within hours,” while sources indicate that “a new round of negotiations will take place in Islamabad after the Hajj period,” the annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, which concludes this year on Saturday, May 30.
If confirmed, these developments would mark a major step forward in the months-long negotiations between the two countries, which have continued through repeated diplomatic contacts and intense international mediation efforts.
