Locations of the First 10 Government Fast Chargers for Electric Vehicles Revealed
Hospitals to Archaeological Sites: Diverse Locations for Electric Vehicle Charging, Including Troodos Square
The Ministry of Transport is advancing the promotion of electromobility. Recently, it announced a new subsidy plan for the purchase of electric and hybrid vehicles, signaling a step towards sustainable transportation.
However, the electric vehicle market will not advance as needed without simultaneously developing infrastructure for charging these vehicles. Currently, the state has charging stations only in government buildings, with the Electricity Authority of Cyprus and some private companies being the primary providers.
To this end, the government is progressing with plans to increase charging points across Cyprus. Notably, the Ministry of Transport has already announced a new scheme involving grants for developing an extensive network of electric vehicle recharging points (aiming for at least 1,000 publicly accessible points) in private enterprises, with a total budget of €3.7 million.
Furthermore, the state is promoting a bill that would allow the installation of charging points at fuel stations, as there is a growing interest among station owners.
In the meantime, the Department of Electromechanical Services has already initiated a tender for the installation of 10 rapid charging stations, costing over €500,000.
