Step Toward Transparency: Supreme Court Upholds Asset Declaration Law for Attorney General

The Court rejected arguments about potential infringements on independence.

Today, Wednesday, the Supreme Constitutional Court of Cyprus ruled that the Asset Declaration Law for state officials is constitutional, following its referral by the President of the Republic.

Reading the decision, Supreme Court President Antonis Liatsos stated that while the roles of the Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General are of the highest standing, they do not fall under the judiciary. Therefore, there is no violation of the principle of separation of powers. Instead, the law adds an extra safeguard to the integrity of the institution.
