Cyprus Airports Expansion Phase 2 Begins
Construction works commence at Larnaca and Paphos airports, aiming for a combined annual capacity of 17.4 million passengers by 2027.
Phase 2 construction works to expand Cyprus’s airports have officially commenced, with completion expected in 30 months for Larnaca Airport and in 27 months for Paphos Airport. Upon completion, Larnaca Airport's capacity will reach 12.4 million passengers annually, while Paphos Airport will accommodate up to 5 million passengers, according to Hermes Airports.
In a statement, the company announced that the financing process for Phase 2 has been completed, with all agreements signed with the banks funding the projects.
A contract has also been signed with the consortium Bouygues Bâtiment International SAS and Iacovou Brothers (Constructions) Ltd, which has undertaken the construction works for Phase 2. These works are in line with the agreement signed with the government on December 23.
In parallel, an independent engineer has been selected—through a process that included the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works—who will oversee the progress of the projects, ensuring compliance with agreed specifications and timelines.
With all preparatory procedures completed, Hermes Airports has now activated all project teams, effectively marking the start of the construction phase. The works are expected to be completed in 30 months at Larnaca Airport and in 27 months at Paphos Airport.

At Larnaca Airport, the works will cover an area of approximately 20,000 square meters. Key additions include a new wing with departure and arrival gates connected to the main terminal building, more baggage claim belts, a new passport control and security screening area, an expanded commercial zone, and increased aircraft parking capacity.
In Paphos, the works will increase terminal capacity by around 30%, significantly enhancing the passenger experience and improving the efficiency of control and processing procedures. In addition, the southern parallel taxiway will be extended, boosting the airport’s operational flexibility.
Once Phase 2 is complete, the capacity of Larnaca Airport will reach 12.4 million passengers annually, while Paphos Airport will accommodate 5 million. This expansion will enable the uninterrupted growth of air traffic in the coming decades, with all the associated benefits for the country’s economy.
Hermes Airports’ Chief Executive Officer, Eleni Kaloyirou, stated: “Today, we mark a milestone investment by Hermes Airports exceeding €170 million.” She added: “This investment aims to upgrade both airports and enhance their operational capacity, ensuring they can effectively meet the demands of the new era—well beyond the end of the current Concession Agreement.”
