Today, the works on Tseriou Avenue are being discussed in Parliament, specifically the projects being carried out by the Public Works Department from the "Theoklitos" roundabout to the entrance of Tseri, as well as from the new GSP roundabout to the "Alfamega/Lidl" roundabout in Lakatamia. The discussions also include projects on the section of Tseriou Avenue where shops are located that fall under the jurisdiction of the Strovolos Municipality, which are expected to begin soon.

It is noted that, the goal is to start the Tseriou Avenue redevelopment works by the end of September or early October if the pending issues are resolved. The new Mayor of Strovolos, Mr. Stavros Stavrinidis, reiterated that the redevelopment of Tseriou Avenue is a project whose design, construction, and supervision fall under the Municipality's jurisdiction. It is worth mentioning that once the redevelopment works commence, the implementation timeline is approximately two (2) years, so it is expected to be completed by the end of September 2026.

The Mayor of Strovolos explained that the cost of the project has risen to €9.5 million plus VAT, amounting to around €11 million, with 1/5 being covered by the Municipality and the remaining 4/5 by the State.

It is noteworthy that, as stated in a previous report in Brief News, by the end of 2025, at best, the works and inconvenience that began on December 3, 2023, will continue for those traveling from the "Theoklitos" roundabout to the entrance of Tseri, as well as from the new GSP roundabout to the "Alfamega/Lidl" roundabout in Lakatamia, according to comments made by Transport Minister Alexis Vafeiades in response in Parliament.

Specifically, the Transport Minister, in response to a parliamentary question from Chryssis Pantelidis, who had received complaints from residents of these areas about the slow progress of the works, noted that the project is experiencing slight delays mainly due to additional works and "unforeseen adverse extreme weather conditions that caused partial and/or total suspension of the works" for a specific period, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

Brief News contacted the Chairman of the Parliamentary Transport Committee and DISY MP, Marinos Moushouttas, who explained that the aim of the Committee members is to be informed by the responsible authorities about the progress of the works taking place in Tseri as well as the planning for the projects that will begin in the next section of the Avenue.

Mr. Moushouttas added that the Committee members wish to know how they will handle traffic when the section of Tseriou Avenue under the Strovolos Municipality also closes, as there are concerns from citizens about traffic congestion and the delays observed in the works. The MP also noted concerns about increased traffic congestion due to the projects expected to commence by the Strovolos Municipality.
