Team PyroCleaner: Pioneering Ocean Clean-Up Innovation
Cypriot Students' Robotic Brainchild Wins Acclaim and Heads to Global Challenge
The PyroCleaner team, composed of Aimilia Aristeidou, Elena Aristeidou, and Evdokia Voudouri from the Mitsis Commercial School of Lemithou, with the support of their teacher Georgia Charalambous, has triumphed in the Girls Go Circular Robot Challenge in Cyprus.
According to a recent announcement from the School, the concept of the PyroCleaner was presented in a three-minute video that garnered the most votes from the judging panel. The invention, PyroCleaner, is an energy-independent robot designed to collect plastic waste from oceans and rivers, transporting it to ships equipped with pyrolysis machines. Its primary mission is to cleanse the oceans of plastic pollutants.
Having been selected as the leading team, PyroCleaner will represent Cyprus at the Women and Girls STEM Forum in Brussels, Belgium, on December 5, 2023. There, the team will have the opportunity to showcase their idea and compete in the finals of the Robot Challenge during the WGSF. They will be upgrading their innovative solutions on a global stage while participating in numerous seminars/workshops and engaging in fun activities, concludes the announcement.
