Cyprus to Launch 'Digital Citizen' Application in Second Half of 2024
One Aspect of the Platform Involves the Central Government, Where the Portal Will Consolidate All Available Services
President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, announced that the 'Digital Citizen' application is expected to launch in the second half of 2024. He has called for cooperation among all ministers with the responsible Deputy Ministry of Research and Innovation, emphasizing that this priority spans across all ministries.
The 'Digital Citizen' application is among the top priorities for 2024, as previously announced by President Christodoulides on January 29. He also initiated the practice of presentations by responsible ministers on horizontal actions that touch all ministries, setting the stage for determining next steps and schedules.
In a statement following the Cabinet meeting, President Christodoulides stated, "Today, one of the main topics on the Cabinet's agenda is the update from the Deputy Minister of Research about the digital citizen and the country’s digital transformation. We start with the digital citizen, as I announced in January when presenting our priorities for 2024." He emphasized the need for accelerated efforts on this issue.
Christodoulides highlighted that digital transformation is a priority to combat bureaucracy and enhance the country's competitiveness. He described the platform as offering two-dimensional state services to citizens, via both the internet and a mobile app.
One aspect of the platform involves the central government, where the portal (gov.cy) will consolidate all available services. This approach allows for redesigned state websites based on a common standard.
"We are one Government; all ministries should have the same websites, offering opportunities for people to conduct their work electronically," the President noted.
He pointed out that by the second half of 2024, they aim to present the application, enabling public use. "It’s the application of the digital citizen for mobile devices, through which one can keep official documents in digital form and consequently use them in their dealings with the state."
Recognizing the need for collaboration across all ministries, he stressed that this is a horizontal priority, not solely pertaining to the Deputy Ministry of Research and Innovation. "Today, because it concerns a horizontal priority, we are inaugurating this new approach. I will ask other ministers with horizontal issues affecting all ministries to make presentations so everyone can see where they stand, and we move forward with schedules," he concluded.
