Open University of Cyprus to Host International Conference on EU Judicial Digitalisation

The Event Will Cover AI, Privacy, And Cross-border Cooperation In Civil, Commercial, And Criminal Justice

The Jean Monnet Chair “European Union Institutions, Rights and Judicial Integration” of the Open University of Cyprus (OUC) is organizing an International Online Conference  entitled “Digitalisation of Procedures in the EU for Judicial Cooperation in Civil, Commercial and Criminal Matters”, to be held on 3-4 June 2025. The Conference will explore recent developments, best practices and key challenges related to the ongoing digitalization of justice within the framework of judicial cooperation at the European Union level. It will bring together distinguished judges, academics, legal professionals, and researchers from Italy, Cyprus, Belgium, Greece, the Netherlands and Spain.

The event is particularly relevant for judges, prosecutors, lawyers, legal advisors, academics, researchers and experts involved in judicial cooperation. It will also be of special interest to professionals engaged in areas such as the digitalization of justice, personal data protection, and the use of artificial intelligence in judicial cooperation and legal processes.

The conference programme includes four thematic sessions as follows:

  • 1st session: “Digitalisation of Justice – State of Play and Challenges” will be chaired by Dr. Alexandros Tsadiras (Associate Professor of EU Law at the Open University of Cyprus, Jean Monnet Chairholder).

  • 2nd session: "Cross border data access and the right to privacy" chaired by Dr. Nikos Gaitenidis (Postdoctoral researcher in the Jean Monnet research group).

  • 3rd session: "Online Dispute Resolution" chaired by Dr. Roxani Frangou (Adjunct Faculty Member at the OUC, and member of the Jean Monnet research group).

  • 4th session: "The role of AI in judicial cooperation" chaired by Dr. Despina Anagnostopoulou (Professor of EU Politics and Institutions at the University of Macedonia, and member of the Jean Monnet research group).
