Europe Launches TRUNSPORT
A New Initiative to Boost Cyber Safety in Transport and Industrial Sectors.
Europe has officially launched TRUNSPORT, a new project that aims to make our transport system, including roads, airports, and energy-related services, safer from cyber threats. As transport becomes more digital and connected, it also becomes more vulnerable. TRUNSPORT steps in to help people and organisations better protect themselves. The project will run for 36 months and is funded by the European Union through the Digital Europe Programme with a total budget of €4.99 million.
Today, transport relies heavily on digital technologies, whether it’s smart motorways, electronic ticketing, or airport systems. While these technologies bring convenience and efficiency, they also create new risks. Cyberattacks can disrupt services, cause delays, or even put safety at risk. TRUNSPORT offers practical tools to help organisations prepare for and respond to these threats.
The project is building a “Cybersecurity Hub” that includes real-time risk alerts, automated checks for weaknesses, training tools to help staff respond to incidents, and a friendly AI assistant that gives simple guidance based on the European Union’s latest security rules (NIS2). One of the most exciting tools on the platform is the mapper, a drag-and-drop visual tool that lets users build a picture of their system, almost like assembling a puzzle. The platform then uses AI to give clear, actionable advice in plain language.
To make sure the tools work in everyday situations, the project will be tested in four real environments: a) smart roads in Greece, b) an energy-maritime site in Greece, c) electronic tolling systems in Greece, and d) Milan Malpensa Airport in Italy, focusing on human-related cyber risks like phishing.
These pilots will show how TRUNSPORT can help operators spot problems early, stay protected, and more easily comply with European cybersecurity requirements.
TRUNSPORT will also open two public calls, offering €2.52 million in funding to at least 42 organisations. These organisations will be able to try TRUNSPORT’s tools on their own systems, receive cybersecurity training, and share feedback to help improve the platform.
Eight partners from five EU countries are working together to make this project happen. They bring knowledge from research, industry, technology, and cybersecurity. The partners include: 1) CERTH-HIT (Greece) - Project Coordinator, 2) EVIDEN Technologies (Romania), 3) Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (Greece), 4) Deep Blue (Italy), 5) Incites Consulting (Luxembourg), 6) DESFA – Hellenic Gas Transmission System Operator (Greece), 7) SEA Aeroporti di Milano (Italy). From Cyprus, eBOS Technologies Ltd plays a key role. The company leads the overall system architecture design, contributes to the development of the project’s AI-powered chatbot, and oversees the integration of the TRUNSPORT platform. They also manage the project’s communication and outreach so the wider public can learn about TRUNSPORT’s impact.
