Global IT Outage: Cypriot Authorities Monitor Situation; Minor Impact Reported on Local Services
Problems Related to a Microsoft Tool Have Already Caused Significant Disruptions at Airports, Banks, and Other Essential Services Worldwide
Technical issues related to a software linked to Microsoft do not appear to seriously affect Cyprus, sources from the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation, and Digital Policy told Cyprus News Agency, emphasizing that ministry technocrats are closely monitoring the situation.
Problems related to a Microsoft tool have already caused significant disruptions at airports, banks, and other essential services worldwide.
"As a central state, we have not been affected. We have examined the issue in critical infrastructures like airports and banks, and they do not appear to be impacted," a ministry official told CNA, adding that only Cyta has been affected, and only in the customer support area.
"We are in communication and monitoring the developments, and it does not seem to be a serious issue for Cyprus," the same sources added.
Furthermore, in a post on the platform "X," Cyta noted that the global technical issue affecting interconnected computer systems worldwide "does not allow us to serve you from our Call Centers, Digital Channels, and Stores at this stage."
"Our product and service provision is not affected," the company added, noting that the issue is being managed in collaboration with the supplier company, and there will be a relevant update.
Based on initial information, the global problem appears to have originated from a cybersecurity software by provider CrowdStrike and an upgrade that caused issues with Microsoft's Windows software (for those who have it installed), leading to these technical malfunctions.
