Hellas Sat Secures License for Digital Terrestrial TV Network in Cyprus

The New DVB-T2 Network Will Enable HD and 4K TV Broadcasting

Hellas Sat has announced that it has received authorization from the Director of the Department of Electronic Communications at the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation, and Digital Policy of Cyprus to install and operate a Digital Terrestrial Television Network for the period from December 1, 2025, to November 9, 2040.

The authorization grants Hellas Sat exclusive rights to broadcast four Single Frequency Networks (SFNs), each with two transmission channels—one from the Troodos region and the other from the Famagusta region—totaling eight television broadcast channels.

According to the technical specifications and special conditions outlined in the tender process, the new network will utilize the DVB-T2 broadcasting protocol. This advanced technology increases transmission speed and significantly enhances the broadcasting capacity of each single-frequency network, making it possible to deliver high-definition (HD TV) and ultra-high-definition (4K TV) content via terrestrial television.

Hellas Sat CEO Christodoulos Protopapas stated that the company is currently evaluating bids for the procurement of new digital multiplexing and TV broadcasting equipment. He further noted that by March, orders will be placed for the most innovative and reliable equipment available on the market.

"Both I personally and the entire technical team at Hellas Sat in Cyprus are excited and particularly pleased to provide Cypriot households with the opportunity to watch high-definition (HD TV) and ultra-high-definition (4K TV) programming, thereby enhancing the television landscape in Cyprus," Protopapas said.

He added that the company is proud to repeat a milestone achieved 35 years ago with the launch of the television station O LOGOS, the first private TV channel in Cyprus.

Looking ahead, Hellas Sat’s management is also exploring opportunities in television content production for both terrestrial and satellite broadcasting. The company’s technical team in Cyprus is already taking steps in this direction, planning initiatives and launching new projects that will be announced in the near future.
