Instagram Brings Live Location Map Features to Cyprus
Meta expands Instagram with new tools for sharing posts and locations, now available to Cypriot users.
Meta is expanding Instagram’s toolkit with two highly anticipated features: Repost, which allows users to share other people’s posts directly to their feed, and a live location-sharing map, now officially available in Cyprus after months of testing in the United States.
The new map feature gives users the option to share their real-time location with friends inside Instagram. Similar to Apple’s “Find My” app, the interactive map lets you see where friends are — but only if they choose to share their location. It also displays posts, Reels and Stories tagged in specific places, making it possible to explore content tied to real-world locations.
Meta stresses that the tool is opt-in and fully controlled through the app’s privacy settings. Users can decide whether to share their location with all friends, close friends only, or selected groups. Location data updates each time the app is opened, and the setting can be switched off at any time.
Even if you don’t share your own location, you can still browse the map for local content and trending posts linked to particular areas. Posts connected to locations appear for 24 hours before disappearing.
The rollout in Cyprus means that local users can now access the feature by going into Instagram’s Notes tab, tapping the map icon, and adjusting who can see their location.
Privacy concerns have been raised internationally, especially in the United States, with some safety experts warning the tool could expose vulnerable groups. Meta counters that it has built in strict privacy controls and emphasizes that sharing is voluntary.
