EU’s Quantum Strategy to Strengthen Its Role in Quantum Technology by 2030
New EU Quantum Strategy aims to build a sovereign ecosystem, boost startups, and secure technological supremacy.
The European Commission presented its Quantum Strategy, aiming to make Europe a global leader in quantum technology by 2030.
According to an announcement by the Commission, the Strategy will promote a resilient, sovereign quantum ecosystem that will fuel the growth of startups and transform Europe’s scientific leadership into market-ready applications, while preserving its scientific excellence.
Quantum technologies, it adds, will revolutionize responses to complex challenges, from pharmaceutical breakthroughs to the protection of critical infrastructure. They will create new opportunities for industrial competitiveness and the EU’s technological sovereignty, with significant dual-use potential for defense and security. By 2040, the sector is expected to generate thousands of highly skilled jobs across the EU and surpass a total market value of €155 billion.
The Strategy targets five key areas: research and innovation, quantum infrastructure, ecosystem strengthening, space and dual-use technologies, and quantum skills.
