Introducing Pharos: The Greek AI Factory
Pharos AI Factory to Leverage DAEDALUS Supercomputer for Advancing AI in Health, Culture, and Sustainability
Greece has been chosen as one of seven EU countries to host the first AI factories in Europe.
The Greek AI factory, named Pharos, will utilize the power of DAEDALUS, a supercomputer currently under development in Greece. Pharos aims to address national and European needs in artificial intelligence across critical areas such as health, culture, language, and sustainability (including energy, environment, and climate). The project will provide end-to-end user support, from upskilling and data provisioning to AI model training and fostering business innovation, while integrating Greece into the European AI ecosystem.
Pharos will be managed and operated by the National Infrastructures for Research and Technology (GRNET S.A.), under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Digital Governance. The initiative is coordinated by a consortium of key partners, including the National Centre for Scientific Research "Demokritos", the Athena Research and Innovation Center, the National Technical University of Athens, and the Hellenic Corporation of Assets and Participations (HCAP).
Special attention will be placed on implementing datasets and AI services that enable the seamless development of AI products that are ethical, trustworthy, and compliant with EU AI laws and sector-specific regulations.
Pharos will rely on HPC (High-Performance Computing) services integrated with the DAEDALUS infrastructure. This will enable access to computational resources, storage, task scheduling, high-speed network connectivity, and ready-to-use software. These features will support computationally intensive AI projects and facilitate innovation across various domains.
