Celebrating 30 Years of the easy Brand (Vid)

Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou Commemorates with a Special Video

Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, the founder and owner of the easy family of brands, which began its journey in 1994, celebrates 30 years of innovative entrepreneurship. In recognition of this milestone, a 4-minute video narrating the history of the expansive easy brand family is released.

The video transports us back to 1994. At the age of 27, Sir Stelios made a pivotal business trip to the Boeing offices in the United States. Remarkably, he flew with a low-cost airline and stayed in a budget hotel for the first time. This experience sparked the idea of expanding his brand's reach, enabling the same name to be used across different ventures: the airline easyJet.com and the hotel chain easyHotel.com.

A few months later, Sir Stelios chose "easy" as the primary acronym, cementing it as the trademark of his companies. It's noteworthy that, until then, easyJet.com was tentatively named stelAir, a blend of his own name, Stel, and his shipping company, stelMar.

Three decades on, easyJet.com stands as the most recognized brand in the group. This is underscored by impressive figures: since its inception, the airline has transported over 1.1 billion passengers. Moreover, the easy family now encompasses over 100 diverse sub-brands, covering a broad spectrum of consumer-focused businesses worldwide. Some easy brands active in Cyprus include easyWoo.com, easyBoat.com, easyCinema.com.cy, and easyFerry.com.

The four-minute video also highlights the philanthropic work of the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, which to date has received donations totaling 84 million euros from Sir Stelios and the easyGroup. This demonstrates a significant portion of easyGroup's profits being allocated annually for charitable purposes.

Sir Stelios shares, "I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have the capability, through the steady income from the easy family of brands, to contribute to philanthropic causes. I am committed and hopeful for another 30 years of successful operation of the easy family, and even greater philanthropic contributions from the Stelios Foundation."
