China–Cyprus Business Ties Strengthen with Launch of New Chamber

The China Enterprises Chamber in Cyprus aims to deepen economic cooperation and mutual trust between Chinese and Cypriot businesses.

The newly established China Enterprises Chamber in Cyprus (CECC) officially held its inaugural assembly on Wednesday evening in Limassol. The initiative seeks to strengthen economic and business relations between China and Cyprus, serving as a platform for cooperation, investment, and shared development.

The launch of the Chamber was welcomed by Minister of Labour and Social Insurance Yiannis Panayiotou and the Chinese Ambassador to Cyprus, Liu Yantao, both of whom expressed confidence in the CECC’s ability to enhance bilateral friendship and business collaboration.

A Strategic Step Toward Long-Term Economic Cooperation

In his address, Minister Panayiotou extended his best wishes to the Chamber and emphasized that the long-standing tradition of friendship and cooperation between the two nations is expected to continue on a positive trajectory.

“We are confident that the way we’ve developed sincere and close cooperation across various levels will guide the Chamber’s future,” he said. “It will gradually evolve into a key institution playing a leading role in China–Cyprus business relations.”

Panayiotou also highlighted shared historical challenges between the two countries and their mutual need for unity and partnership, rooted in values passed down by generations of leaders, diplomats, businesspeople, and citizens.

He further expressed confidence in Cyprus as a promising destination for the Chinese business community, underscoring the island’s growing economy.

CECC as a Business Bridge and Strategic Partner

Ambassador Liu Yantao described the Chamber as bearing a “glorious mission and important responsibility”, expected to become a strong advocate for China–Cyprus friendship and cooperation.

He emphasized that collaboration among entrepreneurs is vital and that CECC should act as a trusted partner and cooperation bridge, facilitating stronger ties between the two peoples.

Liu addressed current global challenges, such as geopolitical tensions, rising protectionism, and the risk of global economic slowdown, stressing the need to uphold WTO rules, promote free trade, and boost mutual openness.

“We must jointly uphold the multilateral trading system, promote win-win cooperation, and bring more stability and positive momentum to the global economy,” he added.

He also noted that 2026 will mark the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Cyprus, saying the strategic partnership is at its highest level. Current areas of successful collaboration include digital technology, green development, innovation, shipping, and tourism.

Liu invited Cypriots to visit China for investment, business, education, and tourism, while encouraging more Chinese citizens to explore Cyprus and contribute to its prosperity.

Wang Wenxu, President of the CECC, outlined the Chamber’s mission as one driven by ambition, unity, and mutually beneficial cooperation.

He emphasized that the CECC aims to become a foundation of trust, a bridge of business collaboration, and a vital link connecting the two nations. It will serve as a resource integration platform and a key player in local economic development.

“Our goal is to strengthen collaboration with Cypriot businesses, trade organizations, and government bodies, contributing actively to the local economy and society,” he stated.

Wenxu also highlighted Cyprus’s strategic location at the crossroads of three continents and its pivotal role in the Belt and Road Initiative. He noted that Cyprus’s continuous development in infrastructure, green energy, and the digital economy presents wide opportunities for joint business ventures.
