Christodoulides and Chevron Once Again Reaffirm Commitment to Aphrodite Gas Field

The Meeting Followed a Joint Statement by the Energy Ministry and Chevron After Meetings in Nicosia, During Which They Agreed to Hold Discussions Over the Next Four Months

President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides and Chevron's Vice President, Frank Kasalo, reiterated their support for the development of the Aphrodite gas field within Cyprus’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) during a meeting yesterday.

According to a statement from the Presidency, Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis noted that the President met with a delegation from the American energy giant, led by the company’s Vice President, in New York.

“The President of the Republic and Chevron’s Vice President reaffirmed their commitment to the Aphrodite project, a venture of strategic importance not only for Cyprus's energy plans and the wider region but also for Chevron itself,” said Letymbiotis.

He further stated that "in the coming period, the Ministry of Energy and Chevron will proceed with a coordinated plan of actions, closely cooperating on this strategically significant project."

The meeting followed a joint statement by the Ministry of Energy and Chevron after meetings in Nicosia, during which they agreed to hold discussions over the next four months. The aim is to find a consensual resolution that ensures the development of the Aphrodite field without further delays, as Energy Minister George Papanastasiou had previously announced.

The consortium holding the development license for the gas field revealed that, on September 2, they submitted a revised development and production plan for Aphrodite, valued at $4 billion, to the Ministry of Energy.
