Cyprus experienced a substantial annual increase of 29.0% in tourism revenue in December 2023.

According to the Statistical Service, based on the results of the Traveler Survey, tourism revenue in December 2023 reached €74.3 million, compared to €57.6 million in the same month of the previous year, marking a 29.0% increase.

For the period January to December 2023, tourism revenue is estimated at €2,990.6 million, compared to €2,439.2 million for the corresponding period in 2022, indicating a rise of 22.6%.

The per capita expenditure of tourists in December 2023 was €600.79, compared to €523.42 in December 2022, showing an increase of 14.8%.

British tourists, who comprised the largest tourist market in December 2023 with 23.4% of all tourists, spent an average of €56.23 per day. Polish tourists, the second-largest market for that month with 11.5% of the total, spent an average of €69.89 per day. Tourists from Greece, the third-largest market with 10.3%, spent €39.41 per day, concludes the Statistical Service.

Rise in Accommodation and Food Services, Decline in Professional Activities

Moreover, the fourth quarter of 2023 saw an increase in accommodation and food service activities but a decrease in professional activities, as indicated by the Turnover Value Index.

According to the Statistical Service, the Turnover Value Index for the fourth quarter of 2023 showed an increase compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year in the sectors of accommodation and food services (16.4%), administrative and support activities (11.9%), and information and communication (5.8%). However, there was a decline in the sector of professional, scientific, and technical activities (-1.7%).

For the period January to December 2023, there were increases compared to the corresponding period in 2022 in the indices of accommodation and food services (18.9%), administrative and support activities (15.5%), professional, scientific, and technical activities (2.7%), and information and communication (2.0%), concludes the Statistical Service.
