Cypriots Among Top Users of London Commercial Courts in 2024

Cypriot Litigants Rank Seventh for Commercial Disputes in London

Cypriots climbed to the seventh position among nationalities most frequently using London's courts for commercial disputes in the 12 months leading up to April 2024.

Specifically, 33 cases involving Cypriot parties in commercial disputes were heard in the British capital, according to the latest annual report by the major UK strategic communications firm Portland Communications.

Overall, cases involving litigants from 84 countries were examined in London, a record number. Foreign litigants accounted for 64% of all cases in London's commercial courts for 2023/24. Notably, there was a significant decrease in cases involving Russian parties due to the war and sanctions.

The United Kingdom topped the list with 391 litigants, followed by Ireland (139 litigants), the USA (75), Switzerland (45), the United Arab Emirates (43), and India (38), before Cyprus.

In the previous 12 months (2022/23), Cypriot litigants ranked 11th in terms of frequency in London’s commercial court cases.

It is noteworthy that since 2019, Cyprus has been the fourth most frequent foreign country with litigants ending up in London courts against British counterparts, specifically with 16 cases (behind only the USA, Germany, and Saudi Arabia).
