Cyprus and Egypt to Sign Key Energy Agreements Today
President Christodoulides to Meet Egyptian President Sisi in Cairo for Bilateral Talks and Energy Deals
Two significant energy agreements concerning the "Aphrodite" gas field and Block 6 of Cyprus' Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) will be signed today in Cairo.
Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides will travel to the Egyptian capital to attend the signing ceremony and hold a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. Their discussions will also cover bilateral developments and regional relations.
According to a written statement by Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis, the signing ceremony will take place on the sidelines of the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES) 2025, organized by the Egyptian government. The event will host numerous energy sector companies. A bilateral meeting between President Christodoulides and President Sisi will also take place during the exhibition.

President Christodoulides will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos, Minister of Energy, Commerce, and Industry Giorgos Papanastasiou, the Government Spokesman, the Director of the President's Diplomatic Office Doros Venizelos, and Hydrocarbons Service Director Stelios Nicolaides. Upon arrival in Cairo, he will head to the Al-Manara Conference Center, where President Sisi will welcome him.
Following a bilateral meeting between the two presidents, attended by delegations from both countries, discussions will extend beyond energy cooperation to include regional developments and Cyprus-Egypt relations.
Later, President Christodoulides will attend the opening ceremony of EGYPES 2025. Following this, in the presence of the Cypriot and Egyptian presidents, along with Italy's Deputy Prime Minister, the agreements will be signed. The Cypriot Energy Minister will sign on behalf of Cyprus.
Specifically, a Host Government Agreement will be signed for the development of hydrocarbons in Block 6, while a Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between Cyprus, Egypt, and the license holders (Chevron Cyprus Limited, NewMed Energy LP, and BG Cyprus Limited) for the development of the Aphrodite gas field.
After the signing ceremony, the presidents of Cyprus and Egypt, along with Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister, will tour several exhibition booths, including that of Cyprus, before President Christodoulides departs for Cyprus.
Additionally, on Monday afternoon, the Cypriot Energy Minister will participate in a Ministerial Roundtable Discussion at EGYPES 2025, focusing on energy security and industrial competitiveness. He will also hold meetings with energy companies on Monday and Tuesday before returning to Cyprus on Wednesday, February 19.
