Cyprus Wins Prestigious "Destination Award" at Routes World Conference 2024

Cyprus Recognized for Excellence in Tourism Promotion and Air Connectivity at Global Aviation Event

Cyprus received the prestigious "Destination Award" during the Routes World Airline Conference held from October 6 to 8 in Bahrain, according to a statement from the Deputy Ministry of Tourism.

The annual Routes World conference, established in 1995, brings together senior executives from the global route development community, including major airlines, airport companies, and aviation stakeholders worldwide. This year's event was attended by over 230 leading airlines and more than 680 aviation companies. The Routes Awards recognize the achievements of tourism authorities, businesses, and individuals, particularly in relation to air connectivity and tourism performance.

The Deputy Ministry of Tourism represented Cyprus in the "Tourism Authorities" category, winning the "Destination Award" for its efforts in promoting the country and expanding its aviation network. Cyprus emerged victorious over other finalists, including the Philippines, Japan, Spain, and Malta, through votes from conference delegates.

This is the first time Cyprus has received this award, which reflects the "continuous and intense efforts by the Government and the Deputy Ministry of Tourism for the international recognition of Cyprus as a tourist destination," the Deputy Ministry stated.

Deputy Minister of Tourism Costas Koumis called the award a great success, noting that it highlights Cyprus's growing international recognition as a premier tourist destination. He added that international distinctions like this add prestige and strength to the country’s tourism industry. "We are committed to restoring Cyprus's high performance in tourism while recognizing the ongoing challenges ahead," Koumis concluded.
