Famagusta Hotels Achieve 80-90% Occupancy For Kataklysmos Weekend
Local Tourists And Foreign Visitors Boost Hotel Bookings, Despite Challenges From Occupied Areas And Airbnb
Hotel occupancy rates in the Famagusta district for the Kataklysmos long weekend are quite good, stated Panagiotis Konstantinou, President of PASYXE Famagusta, adding that occupancy rates have reached 80-90%.
He added that "especially in the Famagusta district, we have quite good occupancy rates in the hotels for the Kataklysmos long weekend, and our fellow citizens are once again honoring our area. We believe that from now on, tourism in the Ayia Napa and Protaras area will go even better."
Answering a related question, Mr. Konstantinou said that "the majority of visitors in the district are tourists from abroad, but there is also a significant flow from our fellow citizens, especially for this long weekend. The occupancy rates are around 80-90%, which is quite satisfactory," he noted.
After the long weekend, he continued, "we will return to our normal levels, slightly behind last year's numbers, and we will continue with the better months for the Famagusta district, namely July, August, and September. Currently, the majority of visitors are from Britain, the Scandinavian countries, Germany, Austria, Serbia, Romania, and Poland, which is one of the emerging markets."
Mr. Konstantinou also mentioned "the problem with flight arrivals at Larnaca airport, with passengers often ending up in the occupied areas. The Famagusta district is particularly affected by the ongoing and increasing flow of tourists who arrive at Larnaca airport but do not stay in the hotels of the area, as they end up in the occupied areas."
He explained that "this is a long-standing problem faced by other cities in free Cyprus as well, but it affects the Famagusta district more. This situation, combined with Airbnb, exacerbates the problem, resulting in bookings at hotels and other tourist accommodations being lower compared to last year," he noted.
