Offenders risk imprisonment for up to one year and/or a monetary fine of up to 5,000 euros. Furthermore, if someone continues to operate their accommodation after being convicted, they commit a new offense, for which a further monetary penalty of up to 200 euros per day may be imposed.
Meanwhile, in a recent announcement, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism stated that, according to the "Regulation of the Establishment and Operation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodations Law," the entrepreneur or manager of each self-catering accommodation may advertise and/or rent the property, provided it is registered in the Register of Self-Catering Accommodations and has obtained a registration license and registration number from the Deputy Ministry of Tourism. The registration of self-catering accommodations in the register of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism is conducted through the Deputy Ministry's official website at www.gov.cy/tourism, where interested parties can register their properties and obtain a registration license.
