Photovoltaic Systems: Record-Breaking Demand Overwhelms EAC Services

Applications for photovoltaic systems skyrocket under the “Solar for All” scheme, forcing the Electricity Authority to hire temporary staff.

An unprecedented rise in applications for the installation of photovoltaic systems—mainly under the government’s “Solar for All” scheme—has been recorded in recent weeks, according to the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC). The Authority notes that this surge in public interest surpasses any previous period and reflects a clear shift in Cypriot society toward clean energy and self-generation.

In a statement issued on Friday, the EAC said that the increased participation has resulted in a significantly heavier workload for departments responsible for managing and processing applications. To accelerate procedures and enhance customer service, the Authority announced that it is in the process of hiring temporary staff to support the handling of applications and related administrative tasks.

Rising demand causes delays, but improvements underway

The EAC further acknowledged that the high volume of incoming calls has led to delays in telephone response times. However, with the reinforcement of service teams and the ongoing internal improvements already being implemented, the Authority expects a gradual and substantial improvement in response times over the coming weeks.

The organization also emphasized that it remains in close cooperation with relevant state authorities to ensure the smooth implementation of national energy schemes and to support citizens investing in green energy solutions.

“Our goal remains the reliable, timely, and transparent service of all applicants, with full respect for their time and needs,” the EAC concluded.
