Economic Challenges and Solutions: Highlights from the CCCI Annual General Assembly
Stavros Stavrou, President of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), is set to outline critical observations on the economic and business landscape at CCCI’s Annual General Assembly on Thursday, December 12, in Nicosia. The event will be addressed by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides.
According to a CCCI announcement, Stavrou will highlight CCCI’s initiatives to strengthen the economy and business environment, presenting comprehensive proposals across key economic sectors.
Stavrou’s speech is expected to emphasize the economy’s positive trajectory, bolstered by recent upgrades from international rating agencies. He will also address the impact of the Cyprus issue on economic and business activities, alongside global challenges stemming from the war in Ukraine and the Middle East crisis.
A key part of Stavrou’s address will include suggestions for enhancing the economy’s current position and navigating existing challenges. He will call on social partners to adopt cooperative measures to overcome stalemates.
The CCCI President will deliver sharp criticism of persistent bureaucracy and advocate for modernizing state structures. Significant emphasis will be placed on reforms in public administration, justice, local governance, and healthcare (GeSY). Additionally, Stavrou will discuss CCCI’s stance on tax reforms and fiscal transformations currently underway.
He is also expected to address high energy costs and inflation, underlining the importance of supporting businesses and households to mitigate these pressures.
Stavrou will voice strong criticism of recent strikes in the healthcare and private sectors, addressing their disruptive effects. He will also highlight challenges and opportunities across sectors such as banking, tourism, trade, industry, real estate, investments, and the digital transformation of the state.
