Cyprus Parliament Approves 50-Cent per kWh Electricity Consumption Fee

Cyprus households to continue paying a 0.5-cent fee per kWh in 2025—find out why the charge isn’t changing this year.

The Plenary of the House of Representatives has approved new regulations introducing a consumption fee of 0.5 euro-cent per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity.

During discussions in the Parliamentary Energy Committee, a representative of the Ministry of Energy explained that the consumption fee rate is determined annually through specific regulations. The official clarified that the amount set in the newly approved regulations remains unchanged from that applied under the previous regulations, which are now being repealed.

The consumption fee rate is determined based on the approved amount allocated for the consumption fee in the 2025 budget of the Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Conservation Fund. This amount represents the revenue expected to be collected through the electricity consumption fee for the year.
